Roy, it was a pleasure to watch you pitch over the years . i guess im going to echo the same comments as everyone else here i really hope you get the world series ring you deserve it couldnt happen to a better athlete or person, best wishes in the journey……
Every time you pitched, I had the feeling that not only were we probably going to win, but that something truly magical could happen. Your commitment to the city, the team and the fans has been unparalled today’s professional sports environment and you are the model not for athleticism but for humanity.
Thank You very much Doc and I wish you the best in life.
It was a great pleasure watching you pitch for the Jays over the past decade. Your dedication and professionalism should be a paradigm for any young player in the game. Baseball is a business at the professional level and trades are a reality. I’ll wish you luck in your pursuit of a World Series ring with the Phillies and hope that this trade facilitates a rebound for the Jays.
we’ll miss you roy.
thanks for doc’s box at the RS. thanks for all the kids who’s lives you’ve touched and made blue jays fans out of.
i hope your goodness will rub off on the clubhouse and your example will cultivate the future…
Thanks for the memories. You are probably the best pitcher I’ve had the pleasure to watch in a Blue Jays uniform and I’ve seen both Dave Stieb and Roger Clemens pitch here in their prime. You’ve also been a tremendous represenative of the City of Toronto by always handling yourself with utmost dignity and professionalism and sharing of yourself through charity work in the community.
Best of luck as a Phillie and I’ll be rooting for you to win the Series unless, through some miracle of nature, the Blue Jays are there at the same time.
All the best in Philly – I’ll be rooting for you to get a ring. Amazing player, class individual.
Thank you for everything that you’ve done for this city – you’ve made such a difference.
Thank Doc for amazing years of pitching. No harm in wanting to be on a winning team, you gave a lot to the Jays Organization, and its time to do whats est for you!
Best of luck with the Phils! Hope you get your World Series Ring!
Cheers,
–beez
Well Doc, you were the face of the team, the face of the city, and face of Canadian baseball, and I hate seeing you go. But I can’t be selfish for me, as you have asked so little over the years. I wish you the best of luck, and know that as you leave the jays behind, so do I. Until Rogers can get behind it’s club with the financial resources needed to compete, I have to step aside as walk away, but I will cheer for you as a Philly, and hope to see you sporting a ring one day soon.
Rob
It has been a thrill to watch you pitch over the years with the Jays. Your talent and hard work will be greatly missed but we look forward to your future success. Thanks Roy!
Roy, thanks for staying with the Jays for so long at less than market value in hopes that you could help take us into October. You have displayed nothing but class on and off the field in Toronto and I wish you the best of luck in your career.
My dream is that a few years down the road the Jays are legit contenders again and you come back to cap off your Hall of Fame career with a World Series ring in Toronto. But until then, I can’t wait to see you shut down the Yankees in WS 2010!
It was a pleasure to be able to watch the best pitcher in baseball pitch on a weekly basis, for the past several years. You have no idea how much you meant to all of us BlueJays fans. You will always be my number one favorite player in baseball no matter where you play. The numbers you will be able to put up in the NL central are going to be crazy… Hopefully you have many cy youngs and world series championships in your future.
I’ve never been one to get overly emotional for a professional athlete but wow, watching this whole process & seeing you move on has been really tough Mr. Halladay. It’s given me a big lump in my throat & made me misty eyed on more than one occasion. You embody everything a professional athlete should be & you & your family have made our city a richer place with all you’ve given. Thank you so much for all you’ve done on & off the field. We’re going to miss you incredibly & be cheering for you from afar. Go get that World Championship Roy! I’ll be at the Dome this summer when you come back to visit.
Thanks Roy & Brandy.
I was thinking about this in reminiscence this morning: was Doc the greatest athlete in our city’s history? The Jays have never had a league-dominating player to the extent of Doc. Dave Steib, Alomar and Carter were great- but only one of those guys is a HOFer (and that’s even debatable).
The Leafs have never had a super star all-world NHLer. You could make the case for Sittler or Gilmour, but Sundin was the best to ever wear the blue and white, and he was always considered a second-tier superstar. He was no Gretzky or Lemiuex. Never nominated for the Hart trophy, but still a good enough player to be far and away the best on our team. The Raptors? Not even a whisper. The Argos? No one likes the CFL in this city.
No one has performed as well for a Toronto team than Doc. Maybe one day Kyle Drabek will…but I doubt it.
I will always remember this game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR199906190.shtml
I was just about to turn 15 years old and I went with my Dad to see the Jays instead of studying for my Grade 9 exams. The young Roy Halladay spun a brilliant 2 hitter and I proceeded to go home, brag about the game for a while and then fall off a bike and brutally break my arm in 2 places. The rest of the summer I sat in bed with a cast on watching the Jays and relishing every one of Halladay’s starts. I even went to see him face the powerhouse Cleveland Indians (seriously, look at that lineup: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR199906240.shtml) ) and pitch a 3 hit shutout over six while I cheered by doing lots of knee-slaps.
Anyway, I never took a single start of his for granted. Even though it just seemed like a routine for all of us: showing up hungover for a weekend game and have Doc blast through some unfortunate team’s lineup, it was still awesome to see every time!
Godspeed, Doc.
Roy, you were a stand up guy! You will always be missed here in Toronto! I truly hope everything works out for you and your Family in Philly… Of course you will still have a lot of support for here when you are playing there.
Take care my friend and I hope you finally get that ring!
Roy, this is a big THANK YOU from a young fan who learned to love the game from watching you play. I guess both of us kind of “joined” the Blue Jays family in ’98, myself was a 9 year old fan learning game for the first time, and you as a wide-eyed rookie just beginning to make his mark on Major League Baseball. Will never forget that near no-hitter you had near the end of that season.
We’ve been through some tough times here in Toronto after the World Series runs, and this city owes you so much for keeping us going with our love for the game.
Your passion, determination, professionalism, and sheer talent will forever be missed by this city.
You were always quick and efficient on the mound, but when you come back here next June, prepare yourself to be a bit more patient… because you’re going to have to wait through one heckuva long standing ovation.
Best of luck with all your dreams and aspirations down the road.
Thanks,
Roy,
Thanks for all of your hard work you put in and for everything you have done to the city of Toronto. You are a great person on and off the field. As all of us know you will be a Blue Jays forever. I now have a second favorite team, the Phillies. I will be rooting for you as will Blue Jay Nation. We all hope you pitch when you come to Toronto and you will get a sold out crowd and standing ovations. I could never say enough good things about you. Thanks for signing autographs for me as well throughout the years when you came to Cleveland. Go Jays and Go Roy Halladay! I wll be making the trip to Toronto from Ohio for when the Phillies come to town!
Ladies & Gentleman…The Dr. has left the building.
As a basefall fan of a team in a hockey town it always brought a smile to my face knowing the cities prize athlete was not a Maple Leaf but instead a Jay! I think I speak for everyone when I say “Thanks”!
I cried as a 9 year old kid when I found out Kelly Gruber had been traded away and although I am no longer a child with tears in my eyes part of me feels the way I did when I found out my favourite player of all time was no longer going to be on the team that meant so much to me!
Doc, it has been an honour and a pleasure to watch you play for the love of the game, not the love of the dollar and I can do nothing more than wish you all the best in Philly and hope you get that ring you so badly deserve! Thanks to MLB Extra Innings you have made me a Phillies fan every 5th day!
Your a class act and the example of what every professional athlete should be! Good Luck, you will be missed!
It was a pleasure watching you work for Toronto all those years. Whenever you took the mound, we had a chance.
Thanks.
Roy you are with out a doubt the best pitcher I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Thanks for throwing me a game ball!
