I went out of my way to attend Halladay games. Not because Roy racks up the Ks, but because it’s a treat to watch him pitch to contact and see the team pick up their half of the defensive bargain behind him. And that curveball – you could see the hook from the 500 level. What more is there to say?
Whenever I went to see a Jays game, I tried to make sure Roy was on the mound because then I knew I’d be getting my money’s worth. Thanks for making the Jays look like a first-rate team on the days you were on the mound, I’m afraid we won’t be seeing that again for a while.
When you’re eventually inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, at least the people of Canada will take comfort in the fact that you will be wearing a Toronto Blue Jays cap.
Thanks for being the “best pitcher in baseball” for the Blue Jays,
you don’t realize how much you will be missed…
Thank You Godfrey, Riccardi, and Rogers for not building a contending team around Roy. Thank you Anthopolous for giving us the fresh start this team needs. Best to you Roy, and lets hope the Jays are in playoff contention by 2011
Roy,
You have been a joy to watch and an honour to be able to say we got to watch the greatest pitcher of our time every 5th day. You will be missed so very much for all you have done for Toronto…. THANK YOU! Go get The Ring you so richly deserve. We will all be cheering for you!
Thank you for being the class act you are. You are the best!
Joanna
Roy, you were a class act and the greastest athlete in my generation in the city of Toronto. I’m grateful you stuck around for as long as long as you did, and please don’t think it went unnoticed.
Good luck in Philly, I will be rooting for you. Come back to us soon.
Thank you for being such good pitcher Roy, extremely dedicated and enjoyable to watch. The best we ever saw in Toronto. You were admired everywhere, even in the Netherlands.
I don’t see it only as a loss, 2010 will be the year to chear for two teams! Go Phillies. Enjoy your time there.
Thanks for playing in Toronto, Roy. You really made the team shine.
Thanks Roy, for not only being the best Blue Jay i have had the privledge to watch play, but for being an even better person, proving that all pro athletes are’nt self centered. Thanks for truly caring about Toronto. Go Phils!!!
From an interview in the Bangor Daily News
The Blue Jays are in a rebuilding mode and Butterfield will be sorry to see Halladay leave to join the Phillies in an apparent three-way trade.
“He’s the greatest player/person I’ve ever been around,” said Butterfield. “I’ve never seen a guy prepare and compete like Roy. He’s the ultimate warrior.”
Just wait until your first start in Philadelphia and you will feel that playoff atmosphere that you’ve been searching for.
Sorry Toronto, but at least you got Kyle Drabek to start anew.
Now that hes gone Jays can finally admit this guy is Half Machine
Thanks for being the best pitcher in baseball, and the most beloved athlete in Toronto. Good Luck in Philly and hopefully we will see you win a world series there. You are the greatest Jay of all-time and possibly the most beloved athlete this city has seen since Wendel Clark. I’ll be at the game in June and for the first time ever I will be cheering against the Jays. Thanks for the Memories Roy
I’m sorry we couldn’t give you the contending team you deserved. Thanks for 2-hitting and shutting out the Red Sox in the one game I got to go to this year. Thanks for being the epitome of class. Thanks Roy. Go Phillies!
No matter how many Cy Young Awards you win with the Phillies, you’ll always be a Blue Jay to us. We’re gonna miss you Doc.
Roy, I tried to savour every time you pitched because I knew there’d be a day when you’d be gone and that there’d also be a day when I would look back and say you were the best I ever saw. Thank you very much for what you did for this franchise, this fanbase and this city. You were an absolute priviledge and delight to watch. I really hope to see you again at the end of your career when the Jays are competing again — until then, nothing but the absolute best to you, Brandy and the kids. The NL East has no idea what it’s in for! And give those Lake Tarpon bass hell!
I guess my loyalties are showing – I think I’ve just become a Phillies fan!
I will miss you every 5th day. But on the bright side, I’m looking forward to having an NL team to cheer for. Kick some ass over there Doc!
I have been a jays fan since I was 3 years old. I would drive around with my dad in the car listing to games on the radio, and have been hooked ever since. I was on the phone with my girl friend who has become a jays fan threw me when I read the report that you have been traded and she told me “how sad it was” My girl friend is a fare weather fan who mostly goes to games and watches to make me happy but she understands how in portent you where to the Jays and how important you are to the city of Toronto. That statement by my girl friend shows why us blue Jays fans were reworded so much by your hard work. Something that will be truly missed. Though I understand why you left I just hope after you get your rings in Philly you come back and win a few more here when this team gets good once again!!!
