—Blue Jays fans in Toronto and around the world

Doc, Thanks for all the excitement you have brought to Toronto. Your dedication to work will always be remembered and you will always be an example for me to follow. In the perfect work, I would like to see you get the ring in Toronto uniform. However, I will root for whatever team you are in, and of course the Blue Jays as well. Wish all the best in your career.

—Aidan, Hong Kong

Thanks for the memories Roy! So sorry that we won’t have you in Toronto anymore, but man, I CAN’T WAIT to see you pitching for Philly in the World Series! The Yankees’ll never know what hit ‘em. Come on October! Not often a Jays fan gets to say that! You’re the best – we know it – and now you’ll get the recognition you deserve. Good on ya. Here’s hoping for a victory lap in Toronto when the time comes. We’ll be here. Until then – give ‘em hell Roy!

—Heather, Midland

Just about every comment is from a fan in Canada, I live in Atlanta, and have been a Jays fan since the days of George Bell, Pat Hentgen and the “Terminator” Tom Henke. Not sure what the Jays were thinking when chosing to trade the best pitcher in baseball. All the stupid, non productive trades and accusitions over the years, you would think we would do something to keep the face of the franchise.
I am a diehard Flyers, Eagles and Sixers fan, I can now add the Phillies to that list.

—George, Atlanta, Ga

We will miss you Roy! You are a class act and have done Toronto proud. Philly is lucky to have you! Hope you can win it all with the Phillies.

—Tim Meloche, Windsor, Ontario

Go get em in philly Roy. Philly fans will crown you king once they get to see who you really are(a relentless machine). You were the best pitcher ever to wear a blue jay uniform & i doubt i will ever get to see anyone comparable in my lifetime, it was an honor. In my own perfect world you win a couple of world series in philly & AA builds a dynamic team that needs a killer veteran starter in about 4 years & back you come to get us back to the promised land. All the best Roy show no one any mercy(including us), because we know you won’t.

—Jeremy Jensen, Smeaton Saskatchewan

Roy,

You were the light at the end of a dark tunnel at times for the bluejays, you were the city of toronto for along time, the image of what we were, Above every leaf, or raptor or argo or anything else. You are also a hero to many kids in toronto. Making it ok to be a baseball player here. Although we will all be rooting you on to a world series championship in philly we will all miss you here in T.O,

Thank you Roy

—Carter Chapley 15

Dear Roy,

You are the standard by which professional athletes should be measured. An intense, driven, honorable player who didn’t care about money or endorsements, someone who played the game purely for both the love of the game, and the drive to win. In an age of steroids, lucrative contracts and ridiculous sponsorships, I am proud to have cheered you on, both on TV and in person, because I can say I rooted for truly one of the greatest athletes (and people) to ever play any professional sport.

—David F, Windsor

Come back to TO please.

—Shivangi, Toronto

Roy,

You were a class act and a role model for Blue Jay fans and just baseball fans. Good luck in Philly and i hope you win the World Series you truly deserve.

—Max, Toronto

Roy, I am deeply saddened to see that Toronto can’t bring you to World Series; you are the reason I remained a Jays fan. I wish you all the best in Phillies and perhaps return to retire as a Jay?! I regret not being able to see you in Jays’ uniform in person (being overseas). You will be greatly missed by all Jays’ fans.

Thanks for always bein there Doc…

I have made trips to TO specifically to see you pitch, and from a 10 inning complete game vs Detroit and last years 1-hitter vs the Yankees, you didn’t dissapoint.
When the start of a future hall of famer only draws 11,000 fans, it is time to move on. You gave to this franchise more than any player ever has in a time when it was less than glorified.
You are a true proffesional.
Best wishes, Merry Christmas etc..
Get a few rings to wear to podium.

—Greg Pyke, Calgary AB

A terribly sad day for fans of the blue jays and sports fans in Toronto, as the best pitcher in Jays history, moves on. I will miss watching the Doc pitch every 5th day. I cant think of any athlete I enjoyed watching perform more. The incredible competitveness, the work ethic and pursuit of perfection every time he took the mound was second to none. The only upside to the deal is that I may get a chance to watch him when it really counts and then the whole world will inderstand what jays fans have known all along. He is simply the best pitcher in baseball. Good luck Doc, I will miss you, but you deserve the chance to win and I wish you many rings and sucess in the future.

—Adam, Toronto

All the best to you Roy – you deserve that ring and we know you’ll get it. It will go well with your future spot in the Hall at Cooperstown.

Met you last summer in Florida at the spring training meeting and greet. We were right behind the woman who had the blown up picture that she took of you the previous year. One of your teammates joked that you were wearing the same T-shirt a year later. I’ll never forget that. You’re the best.

—Allan Brownridge, Wasaga Beach

Roy I wish you all the best in Philly and I hope you get your ring. You have always been a class act and I really admire the way you go about your business and your work ethic. I’m glad you didn’t go to the Yankees or Red Sox it would have been hard seeing you pitch against the Jays that often. All the best to you and your family you deserve it.

—Joey D

Doc thanks for hundred upon hundreds of great memories, I wish you all the best in Philly and hope you get the ring that someone that has all the class in the world deserves and another thanks to your wife who worked so well with us fans in our hearts you will always be a jay
good luck roy
jesse

—Jesse, Vancouver

In a world of cheaters and egos, I thank you, and my kids thank you for always being a beacon of talent, class and compassion. You will be missed, but I hope you get your ring…but only once – 2010 is our “re-building” year ;-)
