—Blue Jays fans in Toronto and around the world

Please Come back to the Jays to finish your career.

—Wei, Edmonton

Going to really miss you, Roy. I hope you will return to Blue Jays after finishing your 4-5 years at Phillies. Maybe by that time, Blue Jays will be competitive.

—May, Toronto

Hey Roy, I want to wish you all the best in the city known as brotherly love, hope your dream of winning a world series ring comes true, and like every other blue jay fan, after your run with the Phillies is over, just maybe you can come and finsih your career here in Toronto. You were the best player ever to wear a blue jay uniform. What I admire the most from you is that you didn’t play for money, you play cause the love of the game and that is why you will always be # one favourite player of all time. I will always be a true blue jay fan, but I look forward to buying myself a Philadelphia Halladay jersey next seson. Happy Holidays and have a hapy new year!!

—Matias M Toronto

Doc,
I am a South Carolina born missionary kid who spent his life growing up in Italy and now lives in Germany. My dad, however is from North Bay, ON and i was born in 1991 so just in time to be showered with all kinds of memorabillia from those two world series years. I know you weren’t around for them but you were for pretty much all the years I’ve been old and aware enough to follow the game. I love the Blue Jays and always will and losing you hurts hard but I really want to thank you for all you have done for my team. Your work ethic and attitude are such an example and I love the way you take the younger guys and work with them . It has really inspired me to be more patient with and work hard with a lot of the younger dudes in my life. Thanks for all your hard work, blood, sweat and tears Roy. Good luck in Philly and for the rest of you life. Just…when you get into the hall, wear a jays cap for me aight’?

—Josh Kandern, Germany

Roy,
I wish you all the best for you and your family in all of your future endeavours!
Thanks so much for all you’ve done in Toronto’s baseball community!
Enjoy Philly!

—Mike, Kamloops

Hi, Roy,

There are only a handful of people in the world that have the same ability as you do. More importantly, though, there are few people in the world that have the grit, determination, and good heart that you have shown throughout your years in Toronto.

I remember when I used to play baseball seriously, I would emulate your demeanor. Then, four years ago, I had a major car accident that nearly took my life, and I continued to emulate your demeanor—but this time in school and physiotherapy. I recently had cancer, and again, copied your ways and fought through that as well.

I’m now a new PhD student at Harvard, where I continue to emulate your work ethic and dedication to the team when doing my research.

I think having a role model such as yourself—someone who has always done things the right way, given everything they’ve got day in and day out, has a huge positive influence on people. It sure has for me—and no matter which team you’re on, I will always be a Roy Halladay fan.

My only regret is not having tried harder to meet you in person some time. If you are set up in the rotation to pitch during the series in Toronto, I will be sure to get home to Toronto to make sure to give you the standing ovation you rightly deserve.

This all being said, I still have two favours to ask of you: (1) unseat the Yankees and get that ring, and (2) if it’s not too painful after winning your ring, come back to Toronto to end your career.

Good leaders lead by voice, but the best of leaders lead through their actions. I think it’s obvious that you are in the latter category.

Thank you for just being you—I feel honoured having had the the privilege to watch you pitch live so many times.

—Nick, Mississauga ON

What can I say, my favorite baseball player ever, favorite Jay, favorite person, my Hero. You’ll be truly missed.

—Calgary

What can i say, the best competitor ever, the best blue jay ever, the best pitcher ever. To say alll of that would be an UNDERSTATEMENT. Roy made me a baseball fan.

My top ten favourte games were all halladay games. Especially when he outduled Johan Santana against the Twins, 4-0 JAYS!!!

Can’t wait till July 25-27.

—Christian, Oshawa

Roy,,,,
I can’t think of a word to describe the works you have done in toronto. Not only you were the greatest pitcher ever to pitch for the blue jays,,,, it seemed like you truly loved the city. I’ll be heading to Korea soon and there i’ll still watch your games and continue to follow you and the phillies. Remember roy Canada isn’t the only place where you have fans , You have tons of fans in Korea as well.! GO ROY! GO!

For twelve years of giving it all every day, for setting an example for your teammates and your fans, for delivering on the promise of your talent, for giving we fans a reason to stand and cheer, thanks Roy.

Looking forward to seeing you next summer in a Phillies uniform in Toronto (can’t believe I just wrote that) Get your ring, Roy. We’re all cheering for you!!!

—Jim Ajax

Thank you Roy. Thank you for being more than a ball player, more than a “sports” guy. Thank you for being a role model. Thank you for being the kind of upstanding citizen you have been. Thank you and your family for carring so much about Toronto and the Community around you. In a time where so much is money and fame, you are and will be a light in the darkness, showing people what being a “MAN” is all about.

—Rob J, Barrie Ontario

Dear Mr. Halladay,

Thank you for pitching for the Jays im very thankful and appreciated that you stayed for those 11 years. i wasnt really a huge baseball fan of MLB, til i found out you were on the rise of a cy young or best pitcher, who has contended to be a major piece in a franchise. i wish you the best of luck in philly and probably the jays will have a decent year i will support you and your cast in philly. gl halladay best of wishes and happy holidays!P.s. after you win a ring or 2 in philly come back to toronto for a victory lap!

your Number 1 fan,
Zachary Camporese

—Zach, Hamilton, Ontario

As a Toronto sports fan, I have never been in a similar position before where I felt that my city had the best player in the league at their craft. Roy, its been a pleasure to watch the best player in the league pitch every fifth day, and a honour to know that the Blue Jays have been envied by every other team for having the Doc. The best athlete to ever play for a Toronto sports team. Thanks for your competitiveness and humble attitude, and thanks for constantly making my decision of “which Jays game to go see?” so easy. Please return in a few years when the Jays are a developed contender.

Thanks,

Mike

—Michael C

Thank you ROY, It has been a pleasure watching you carve up the Yankees and Reds Sox on a regular basis year in and year out.. I am sorry that Lame Duck J.P. could not surround you with the talent he promised.

I’ve been a huge Jays fans since I was a little kid. Watching Roy Halladay pitch was the greatest thing ever. You could sit back, relax and watch the Doctor at his finest. It’s too bad Doc is gone, nevertheless I do wish him the best with the Phillies. Thank you so much, you’ll be sorely missed this year and beyond

—Steve, London ON

Class act. No other way of putting it. The greatest pitcher, let alone the greatest Blue Jay. Thanks for everything Roy. You will never be forgotten and will always be welcomed in T.O. Good Luck with everything and keep up the good work!
