—Blue Jays fans in Toronto and around the world

I had a chance to watch Roy Halladay pitch a handful of times over the decade. It seemed every time I went to Seattle or Toronto to watch the Jays I saw him pitch. However, I did not see him win a game until May of 2008 when he pitched a complete game shut out against the Royals. At that time I remember thinking, wow this is great. But this wasn’t a rare occurance, he pitched like this almost all the time. He was always on and he is by far the best pitcher to ever pitch for the Jays.

After watching him and the Jays everyday for the last decade you saw this guy was something special. It is said in baseball that the leader of a team can never be a pitcher because they only “play” once every five days. But anyone who watched the Jays, knew Doc was the leader of this team and there was no questions about it. He quitely demanded perfection from everyone, and carried the rotation and made all 24 other guys better.

After being a big baseball fan in this decade, I can safely say all the good things that Roger Clemens brought to his teams is just what Halladay brought to the Jays. He is the most intimidating pitcher in the game and I don’t think the Blue Jays will ever be the same. I wish Roy Halladay all the best and now I hope the rest of baseball gets a chance to see what this guy brings to the table.

Thanks Roy for the great 15 years. I once saw you running on the boardwalk in Toronto early in the morning. I said great game last night and you stopped and said thanks and shook my hand. Great guy, great ballplayer, and good luck. We’ll all be rooting for you.

You’ve been a great and positive influence on the Jays, Toronto and baseball in Canada. I’m going to miss seeing you in that uniform but I want to wish you and your family all the best in Phillie. If anyone in the game has ever deserved a ring for his dedication and love for baseball it’s you and I’ll be cheering for you next season.
God Bless.

—Andrew, Delta BC

Best. Jay. Ever.

—Srayze, Toronto

Thanks Roy. You were nothing but a class act,a true professional. I never thought the day would come where i could say Dave Steib is my second favourite all time Blue Jay. Looking forward to seeing you perform as a Phillie in June at the RC. I truely hope the organization gives you the welcoming ceremony you so richly deserve. Best of luck to you and your family. You will be missed.

—Kelly,Toronto.

Roy,

This is the first time I have ever felt heartbroken over a sports player leaving my club. Never thought it possible. And I know I’m not the only one.

So I guess that means you’re something special. It could be the pitching brilliance, or the utter commitment, or the charitable work. I think it was all of those things and more. Like…the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. That’s why you’re so missed (already)

On a personal level, you’ve also become a great role model for me. The work ethic, the community work, the leading-by-example…I constantly think of you when I strive to be my best. So know that your influence extended way beyond the clubhouse.

I hope to see you back in the Jays uniform before your career is over.

Best wishes,

Matt

—Matt, Toronto

We love you, Toronto Loves you Roy! I will be watching you closely next season and hope that one day you will come back to the jays.

—Riley

Thanks for your leadership on the team and in the community, committment to the team in the worst of times, love displayed to the city by you and your family, your unmatched work ethic and desire to win. The greatest Blue Jay of all-time, I look forward to having your name and number up on the wall of the Rogers Centre.

Thanks for the great memories Doc, you are a champ whether you get that title or not..you will be missed, good luck

—Ryan, Hamilton

Only one way to describe Roy Halladay as a pitcher. Hes freaking sweet. It’s a shame we were never able to accomplish anything with him in a Blue Jays uniform. He did everything we could ask for and more. We just couldn’t stay consistent with the rest of the rotation or the lineup. Good luck in Philly. But I will never be able to picture you in another uniform. It’s just painful.

Easily the greatest pitcher in Baseball and always a my favourite Jay and player of all time! Doc, you were the man in Toronto and always brought the intangibles, classiness and showed it all on the field as well. Wish you the best because thats what you are and I can’t wait to see you pitch, possibly in Toronto again!

Lets go Phillies!

It has been a complete and utter honour to watch you pitch in Toronto. Thanks for all the hard work and dedication you showed, as well as for being an absolute class act. I’ll be cheering for you in Philly. See you in June!

—Dizzle

Roy, like every other Jays fan, I have an absolute ton of memories, but I think my favorite one is the last time I saw you pitch. It was June 30, 2008 in Seattle. 9IP, 0ER, 4H, 0BB and a win for the Jays – just another day at the office for you.

I brought my girlfriend to the game, it was the first one she’d ever been to. I’d told her about you, but she was still pretty impressed. One thing she said really stuck with me:

“I feel really bad for the Seattle players. All these people come to watch them, and it’s just hopeless. They don’t seem to have a chance.”

I think that sums it up nicely.

Go get ‘em in Philly, Roy!

—Darren, Vancouver

Thanks for being the classiest all-star this city has ever seen. It was a pleasure to watch you dominate every 5th day. I can’t wait to watch you in October. Go get that ring!

—Drew, Toronto

It’s a shame Roy will have to settle for a 2nd place finish with the Phillies.

—Windu

Roy… Doytch, D-Arrested and R-Gill miss you. Oh well, you’re mine now. All Mine. #34 in Phillie pinstripes.
