—Blue Jays fans in Toronto and around the world

Good luck Roy, thank you for years of shutting down the rest of MLB and especially the yanks and sox. I was at the Rogers Centre for the game against A.J. and the Yanks this year and it was a fantastic way to have seen you pitch. All the Best!!! Go Phils!!

—Jason, Georgetown

Doc,
Among my fondest sports memories are those that were found at the end of the journey up the QEW from Buffalo, on the days you took the mound. It was a joy watching a master of his craft. Best wishes in Philly, I’m confident you’ll find World Series wins there. I’m also anticipating a future Hall of Fame induction in Cooperstown!

—Paul, Buffalo NY

The last few years, I only ever went to Jays games to watch Roy Halladay. You will be sorely missed, Doc. Get that ring you have more than already earned.

—A sad fan, Toronto, Ontario

Youve done more than enough for baseball in canada, Doc. Over the past 8 years, i was rarely more excited to watch a baseball game than when you took the mound. That being said, even as an AVID Jays fan, im glad you made it to philadelphia where they have an excellent team and i hope you get some WS rings because nobody deserves it more! A class act and the best pitcher in baseball, thanks Doc

ps. show that Hamels kid a thing or two, baseball will need a Doc protege

—Josh, Halifax

Thanks for all those great memories Doc! You are for sure among the best of all time! Not to mention, a class act! I hope you get that ring soon in Philly.Maybe then if the jays rebuild and contend they can bring you back in a few years to help put them over the top! All the best to you and your family!

—Terry, Sarnia

Roy,
Playing with you for the years I’ve been on the team have been the greatest years of my life. Playing with a talented player like you really made me feel honoured. Thanks for all the laughs, and most of all, being a major part of our wins.

All the best, and keep in touch.

A-Hill

—Aaron Hill

Congrats on heading to a real city and real team. I know Toronto and Canada in general sucks. They can’t play hockey there, let alone baseball.

—Mats Sundin, Stockholm

Doc,
You have always been and always will be my favourite player
I wish u all the best in Philly, and hope you get the goal of becoming a world champ.

—Jordan, Vaughn, ON

Go chase that World Series buddy, you deserve it. Thanks for the memories Roy, you’re the best in baseball, and my favourite player of all time!

Good luck in Philly!

—David, Richmond Hill, ON

Best player, pitcher and most importantly human being ever to wear a Jays jersey. Win four World Series with Philly and then come back and win one with us.

Good luck Doc!

—Phil, Toronto

Thanks for the memories, Doc.

Here’s hoping you don that Jays cap at least once more in Cooperstown. Looking forward to watching you in October.

—Paul, Toronto

Roy, I saw you at your press conference. You looked great in the red tie and all…but here’s the deal. If you want to roll with this ball club, you need to grow the beard back. I left you some pretty big shoes to fill…granted they weren’t for my playing ability…no…they were for my beard. Godspeed, Leroy.

—Beardo Bruntlett, Washington Metro Area

Roy, Thanks for finally leaving the AL East… now me and the boys don’t have to worry about facing you 8 times a year

—Terry, Boston

Thank u roy for all those great years in toronto. I know u dint pitch in the playoffs but u are one of the greatest pitchers. i hope u win a ring in philly and have the success u have been trying to get with the jays. u are my choice for greatest blue jay of all time and will always be my favorite pitcher. first ballot hall of famer

Hi Doc,

I have always been a huge fan of the Jays, but my admiration of you has actually exceeded my passion for the Jays! I am huge fan of yours for several reasons:

As a competitor, I love how you give it all every single time out there, and always try to finish what you start.

As a great starting pitcher, you pitched to the SITUATION, which usually resulted in you getting a ton of ground balls to save your arm and the pen, but you could always get the strikeout if you needed it and would always counter-adjust to how the hitters adjusted to you.

As an outsider looking on, I love how you were always so humble and modest, and despite your talent and individual success, you never seemed to desire or expect any favourable treatment over your teammates. And when you spoke, you always seemed to say the right thing.

You were a great role-model to kids (and every other member of the Jays for that matter) for your legendary work ethic; such as in spring training every year, always being the first one on the field jogging and working out in the mornings.

I love your determination. Back in 2001, you were sent all the way back to Class A ball, and it appeared that you would never reach the potential everyone who watched you pitch, knew you had. But you worked hard, wouldn’t quit, and made adjustments to your approach to the game, and came all the ways back, and actually well-EXCEEDED initial expectations.

I admire your loyalty to the Jays and how you signed two extensions below market value, so that you could potentially get to the World Series as a Jay, the team that believed in you and drafted you.

As the classiest guy in pro sports, I loved how you took out a full page ad in a popular Toronto newspaper to thank the fans and to honour their support and dedication. As a Jays fan, I think I speak for many others when I say that it was truly appreciated. Many other professional athletes could learn from you Doc.

I am disappointed that the Jays were never able to put a team around you that could truly compete for a playoff spot, because firstly as a Jay, I wanted to see you pitch in the playoffs and on the big stage, so more people could see just how great you are.

Although you will be truly missed as a Jay, I totally support and understand your decision to move on, and I cannot wait to see you pitch in the postseason, which I expect will first happen in 2010. The best offensive team in the NL how has the best pitcher in all of baseball, and I am excited about finally getting to see you pitch on that big stage, even if it’s not with the Jays. You are the best Doc, and I believe you’re gonna win several World Series titles !

As a Jays fan, thank you Doc for all those years of terrific pitching and thank you for your loyalty and dedication to the Jays and us fans.

All the best :)

—Kirk, Port de Grave NL

You’ll never be as gangsta as Johan.

Roy, on behalf of the team, welcome to Philadelphia. I can’t wait until you hand the ball to Charlie after giving us 8+ solid innings. I want to blow every single one of your wins. I will get down on my knees and blow them all if you want me to do that for you. Hell, I’ll even teach you a few things about fastball location and hanging sliders. I know you haven’t seen much of Pujols; I’ll giving you the scouting report.

—Brad Lidge

Agony…. will always be one of my favorite players. Get your ring Doc! !
